How to Add Padding to a Headboard

There's no reason your pillows should provide all the cushioning and support when you're relaxing in bed. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of your headboard. Add 4 inches and record this figure. Measure the width of your headboard. Add 4 inches and write down this figure.

    • 2

Unscrew your headboard from the bed frame using a screwdriver and/or a wrench. Lay it carefully on a flat work surface or on the floor, if necessary.

    • 3

Cut a piece of foam to the length and width of the dimensions you just wrote down. Spray your headboard with upholstery adhesive.

    • 4

Center foam onto the headboard and press down firmly so the glue sets.

    • 5

Pull the the excess foam to the back of the headboard and staple them firmly in place.

    • 6

Cut a piece of soft fabric to the same dimensions as the foam and lay it over the foam-covered headboard, centering the headboard on the reverse side of the fabric.

    • 7

Pin the fabric down against back of the headboard, sliding pins into the foam. Pull the fabric taut. Once satisfied, staple gun the fabric in place.
