How to Decorate Around a Burnt Orange Accent Wall

An accent wall refers to a wall with a particular decor attribute created to cause it to stand out from all the adjacent walls. For example, an accent wall could be a wall painted a different color from the surrounding walls or it could be a wall that bears wallpaper unlike the other walls. If you have a burnt orange accent wall in your home, you have made a bold and wise design decision that will effortlessly warm the room, transforming it into a welcoming space. However, you need to decorate around this wall strategically to complement it as much as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a low piece of furniture against the wall in a contrasting hue. For example, a black lacquer bed or a lime green upholstered chair or bench is a bold design decision that will cause the wall to stand out.

    • 2

Place a piece of wall art, such as a painting or another object, in the center of the accent wall. However, the colors of the object you hang must contrast the orange wall and complement the piece of furniture. For example, if you've placed a black lacquer bed against the wall, a charcoal, black, gray or even navy blue piece of art will stand out nicely against the accent wall.

    • 3

Install burnt orange ceramic wall sconces on either side of the wall art. This will provide illumination at night, accentuating the wall even more. The three-dimensional quality of the wall sconces will give the wall greater texture and feel like the wall is popping out even more.

Add subtle decorative accents in a third, lighter color, such as cream or off-white, so that the accent wall doesn't look overly dramatic or gloomy. For example, a cream-colored side table would help offset darker colors, as would cream-colored throw pillows and bedding.
