How to Change Cabinet Knobs From Center to Corner

The cabinets take up so much surface area in your kitchen that if there's any detail about your cabinets that you don't love or aren't terribly crazy about, it can influence your entire feeling about your kitchen. For example, knobs in the center of your cabinet doors are an offbeat and unique choice but one that can grow tiresome after a while. Luckily, if you've inherited such cabinets, you don't have to live with them. You can easily change them even if you don't have professional carpentry skills.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the cupboard knobs from their current location. Spray down the area with an all-purpose spray then wipe it clean.

    • 2

Scoop out a dime-sized wad of wood putty with a putty knife. Pat it into the holes left by the removed knobs. Use the side of the putty knife to scrape off the excess putty and push more of it into each hole.

    • 3

Give the putty an hour to dry. Measure 1 inch up from the bottom corner of the cabinet door and 1 inch inward. Mark the spot with a pencil. Drill a pilot hole with a hand-held drill and a drill bit the size of the screw attached to the back of the knob.

Screw the knob into its new hole. Sand the wood putty with 120-grit sandpaper. Wipe off the dust with a tack cloth. Dip a 1-inch nylon brush into a can of finish and cover the filled-in hole with a tiny amount of stain. Allow it to dry.
