How to Make a Desk Surface Smooth

The desk is one of the key pieces of furniture that directly contribute to productivity. Just as it's important for your desk to be level, it's equally important for your desk to be completely smooth. A wooden desk with a rough surface will scratch your computer and other electronic equipment not to mention create unpleasant friction along your wrists and hands, making work uncomfortable. Luckily, if you've received such a desk, you can fix the surface in an afternoon.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the surface of the desk with an all purpose cleansing spray. Wipe the desk down with a lint-free cloth. Allow it to air dry.

    • 2

Press a piece of 100-grit sandpaper onto an electric sander. Run the sander across the surface area of the desk. This grit of sandpaper will buff out the superficial roughness. Repeat with 220-grit sandpaper and 360-grit sandpaper which will bring the surface to a sleek shine. Use a final piece of 500-grit sandpaper if you want the desk to be exceptionally silky.

Mop the table off with a tack cloth. This will wipe off all the dust from sanding. Follow with a handheld vacuum to remove any residual dust.
