How to Decorate a Front Porch With Pedestals

A front porch is a prize for any homeowner. A front porch allows you to enjoy the weather and fresh air while staying close to the comforts of your home. Decorating a front porch properly is important, as you want to be able to take advantage of all the space for relaxing and entertaining but you don't want to clutter the area with too much furniture, making it feel chaotic or claustrophobic. Pedestals can greatly assist you in that regard, as they provide stable surfaces yet take up a fraction of the space traditional tables do.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the main pieces of furniture that are on the porch already, such as the couch or bench and accent chairs. Pinpoint your decor style.

    • 2

Purchase pedestals in a range of sizes and materials that complement your decor style. For example, knee-high, waist-high and hip-high pedestals will all create a dynamic environment as will a range of pedestals made of stone, iron, wood, wicker and other materials in styles that accentuate your decor.

    • 3

Place a pedestal beside every seat on the porch. The pedestals are small enough that they won't take up a lot of space yet large enough to provide a place for people to put their drinks and other items.

    • 4

Place a pedestal at each corner of the porch, and place a potted plant on the pedestal. This will give the porch a sense of the outside world converging with the inside space as well as add a bit of greenery to the porch.
