How to Decorate a Room With Teal

Hang patterned teal-and-white or teal-and-cream wallpaper on one wall. For example, teal stripes or teal flower designs make a dynamic accent wall.

Paint the remaining walls a shade of teal that is slightly lighter than the teal in the wallpaper. A lighter shade of teal will keep the room from looking cramped and project a sense of space.

Install hardwood floors in a soft almond color or remove carpeting to expose wood floors. The natural brown hues of wood go effortlessly well with teal. Otherwise you'll have to find a flooring material that doesn't match the walls and doesn't distract from the teal overtone.

Arrange furniture around the room that incorporates the teal of your walls, the brown of your floors and elements of orange to offset the teal and brown. For example, a brown leather couch with teal throw pillows is a wise choice, or a teal upholstered armchair with a brown or orange pillow. Your goal is to use the colors freely, and to prevent things from looking overly matchy.

Hang window treatments in either brown or orange. You need to use a color of window treatment that contrasts the teal of the walls but which matches your color scheme. Fabric window treatments like roman shades, curtains or balloon shades are a wise choice.

Place decorative accessories around the room in teal, such as picture frames, figurines, vases, throw rugs and other items. Since teal is the dominant color of the room, the teal accessories will subtly help to establish that in an understated manner.
