DIY: Tall White Headboards

While most headboards tend to be around 43 inches, there's no reason why they have to be. A tall headboard will make a bold, decisive statement in your bedroom as well as bring attention to the upper level of space in your bedroom, which is particularly useful if you have a bedroom with high ceilings. A tall white headboard has the minimalism of a blank canvas and the refreshing quality of a beach cottage. Both of these elements are ideal for creating a proper place for rest.

Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the door knobs from the vintage white doors. Spray the doors with an all-purpose cleaning spray. Wipe them down with a lint-free cloth.

    • 2

Buff the doors with an electric sander using 220-grit sandpaper. Run the sander over the areas that have loose splinters and other major flaws. Rub the area down with a tack cloth.

    • 3

Draw a horizontal line in chalk, 3 feet up from the mattress on the wall where the headboard will go. Run a studfinder along the wall, make tick marks on the horizontal line every place you find a stud.

    • 4

Drill the bottom parts of two flush mounts along the horizontal line, drilling them each into a stud. Space the two bottom parts at least 3 feet apart.

    • 5

Drill a top part of a flush mount into the middle of the back of each door. Slide each door along the wall, allowing the flush mount parts to catch and interlock and securing your headboard.
