Sports Theme Decor for a Baby Room

Your baby may not know the difference, but decorating a nursery with a sports theme reflects your personality and decor style. Sports gear hailing from soccer, baseball or football play an integral part in making a sports theme nursery look complete. Use gear from your favorite sport, or add a combination from several to create a nursery you will enjoy relaxing in to soothe your baby during long, wakeful nights.
  1. Sporty Color Scheme

    • Choose a color scheme that matches the style you wish to decorate your baby's nursery in. If you plan to decorate the room after a favorite team, choose a neutral color like white or brown along with a couple of your favorite team's colors. Paint the walls with the main hue, and use the supporting colors for furniture, accents and accessories. If you choose to use a bold or dark color for your walls, paint a single wall with the main color and use white or another light hue for the remaining walls to create an illusion of space.

    Wall Decor

    • Instead of painting the walls in a solid color, cover a wall with a sports-themed mural. Include a couple of your chosen colors within the mural, and incorporate other accents that match the wall painting. Decals of sports emblems, posters of baseball bats, footballs or soccer balls or wallpaper depicting players challenging each other in your favorite game can also dress up the wall with a sports theme. Limit your wall decor if you plan to use a mural to avoid a cluttered effect in the nursery.

    Sports Gear

    • Hats, baseball gloves, hockey sticks or tennis rackets can be turned into instant decorations for your baby's sports nursery. Lean a collection of baseball bats in a corner, mount a hockey stick on the wall or place a well-worn baseball glove and ball on a dresser to tie in your sports theme. Pick gear that you used when you were a child for a nostalgic theme. Bulky items like soccer cleats or a football helmet work the best as a standalone accessory while flatter, lighter items such as basketball nets or lacrosse sticks work well mounted on a wall.

    Accents and Accessories

    • A bean bag chair made to look like a giant basketball or soccer ball, a sports-themed mobile or a rug in the shape of a football can tie your sports nursery together. Pick a few items that match your color scheme, and design and use them to punch up the visual interest without breaking the unity of the room. Sports pennants, foam fingers or a clock that displays a favorite logo or emblem can tie your room together. Artfully arrange a few sports accents that go with the sports gear and other paraphernalia to make your nursery look complete.
