Can Black Leather & Brown Leather Furniture Go Together?

Nearly any combination of colors can complement each other if the decor of the room is carefully designed around them. When combining black and brown leather furniture, the most important rule is to maintain a cohesive look for the rest of the room. Random use of black and brown can cause a room to look messy and unplanned, but with a little planning, these two colors create a cozy, fall-inspired feel.
  1. Black

    • Black is a sophisticated, elegant color. Black is usually used as an accent color, as it lends depth to any color scheme. Tie the black and brown furniture together by placing black cushions on a brown sofa, and brown cushions on a black sofa. Create a seating area with black and brown chairs or sofas, and tie it all together with a black and brown floor rug placed in the center of the seating area. On a brown wood floor, stick with a black floor rug. Position a black ottoman in front of a brown chair, or a brown ottoman in front of a black chair.

    Brown

    • Brown is a neutral, earthy color. Combining a range of brown tones offers plenty of visual interest and allows for an eclectic decor style. The black ties the different brown hues together and prevents the eclectic look from becoming too busy. Save money by creating your eclectic decor by searching for bargains in thrift stores, flea markets and antique shops. Combine the furniture with items such as a brown table runner and brown center piece on a black table.

    Earthy Theme

    • Combining black and brown with greens creates the perfect color palette for an earthy, nature-inspired room. One example is to use wood paneling on the lower half of the walls, and green paint on the top half. Create an accent wall with green and black wallpaper, featuring a nature-inspired pattern such as flowers or vines. Add brown curtains to the windows, and green cushions or throws to brown and black sofas and chairs, and place green table top accessories on tables and cabinets. Finish the look with plenty of fresh flowers in a selection of black and brown containers and create an earthy center piece by placing fir cones, cinnamon sticks and star anise in a beautiful green bowl.

    Bold Colors

    • Both black and brown complement any color. The finished look of the room will depend on the color or colors you choose to go with your black and brown furniture. For example, rusty reds, burnt oranges and fiery yellows will create a warm, fall-themed look when combined with black and brown. Bright and bold reds, oranges and yellows will create a retro vibe when teamed with black and brown. For a calming, neutral feel to the room, combine black and brown furniture with creams, mocha and ivory. Whatever color scheme you decide on, even if it's electric blue, be sure to tie the whole look together with a splash of your chosen color on each piece of black and brown furniture.
