How to Decorate a Men's Bookshelf

Whether you are decorating a bookshelf at home for your son, your husband, or even yourself, you can add several accents to give the shelf a masculine feel. Depending on the style and construction of the bookshelf, you may choose to refinish the piece of furniture before you begin decorating it, especially if it's finished in a feminine color or isn't study enough to give it a masculine look.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a framed photo that is significant to the man on the top of the bookshelf at either end. Choose photos that mean something important, such as a key event in the man's life or a photo taken on a special holiday. Frame the photos in metal or wooden frames.

    • 2

Decorate the rest of the top of the bookshelf with mementos important to the man's life. If he has children, one or two homemade crafts from his kids would be ideal. Trophies or awards recognizing accomplishments in sports, work or other activities will bring happy memories every time he looks at the shelf.

    • 3

Reserve one shelf for some of the man's most prized toys or collectibles. Regardless of his age, it's likely he has some collectible he wishes to have on display. A few of his collectible die-cast sports cars, for example, are ideal to display.

Fill the remainder of the bookshelf with books that are important to the man. Place the heaviest books, such as large photo albums, on the bottom shelf. Put medium-sized books on the middle shelves and paperbacks on the upper shelves.
