How to Build a Bench from an Old Headboard

If you've recently revamped your bedroom and replaced your old bed with a sleek new one, you might be looking at your old headboard and finding it a shame to throw out or donate such a distinctive or decorative piece of wood. However, there's no reason why you can't reinvent such an item into a useful piece of furniture such as a bench. This will give you a place to put on your shoes in the hallway or create outdoor seating.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the headboard on a flat work surface in front of you horizontally. Use a tape measure to measure a width of 18 inches on each. Mark it with a piece of chalk.

    • 2

Cut the headboard down to an 18-inch width, using an electric saw. This is the standard size for a bench.

    • 3

Place two step stools 2.5 feet apart. Adjust them so they are perfectly parallel to each other. Place the sawed-off headboard on top. Straighten it so it lines up exactly with the step stools.

    • 4

Nail the headboard into the step stools, inserting two nails, spaced 6 inches apart, into each stool.
