How to Build a Table With Storage Baskets

There's no reason why your home furnishings shouldn't work double duty for you. For example, while you need a table to provide you with a flat surface for eating and working, there's no reason why a table can't give you the added benefit of extra storage space for pens, paper, books, knick-knacks and other items you don't want the world to see. You don't need a degree in carpentry or design to craft a multi-functional table that everyone in your household will truly appreciate.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the sheet of wood or door and your two stepstools using 100-grit sandpaper and an electric sander. Repeat with 220-grit sandpaper and then 360-grit sandpaper.

    • 2

Rub the pieces down with a tack cloth, wiping off all the dust from sanding. Paint the sheet of wood or door and step stools a color of your choice using an oil-based paint and a 3-inch nylon brush. Give the pieces time to dry overnight and add a second coat, allowing it at least 12 hours to dry as well. Coat the table top and stools with a clear coat of polyurethane.

    • 3

Position the two step stools 2 to 3 feet apart, depending on the size of your table surface. Adjust them so they are in line. Place the door or wood sheet on top. Use a hammer to nail two nails into each step stool.

Place storage baskets on the rungs of the step stools.
