Instructions

    • 1

Combine 1/3 cup of trisodium phosphate with 1 gallon of water in a bucket. Submerge a
scrub brush in the mixture and shake it out. Scrub down the table. Wipe it down with paper towels and allow it to air-dry.

    • 2

Load an electric sander with a piece of 80-grit sandpaper. Run the sander along the surface area of the table, buffing off the old finish and opening up the grain of the wood. Repeat with 200-grit sandpaper and then 300-grit sandpaper.

    • 3

Run a hand-held vacuum cleaner across the table to remove the dust from sanding.

    • 4

Dip a 3-inch nylon brush in stain or paint. Cover the wood table with a thick coat of stain or a light coat of paint. If you're using stain, allow it to penetrate for 20 minutes and then wipe off the excess. If you're using paint, allow one coat to dry overnight. Apply a second coat, also giving it around 12 hours to dry.

Dip your paintbrush in clear polyurethane and cover the entire table in a light coat. Allow 24 hours for it to dry.
