How to Faux Wood Grain a Chair

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the chair with an all-purpose cleaner. Wipe it down with a lint-free cloth. Allow it to air dry completely.

    • 2

Take the chair outside or to an extremely well-ventilated area. Place a newspaper or drop cloth over your work area.

    • 3

Spray the chair with a cream- or honey-colored oil-based spray paint. Allow the spray paint to dry overnight.

    • 4

Tape stencils in the pattern of wood grain to the chair, holding them in place with painter's tape. Select a dark brown color of oil-based spray paint and spray the stencils in place. Remove the painter's tape and allow the darker paint to dry overnight.

    • 5

Spray the chair with a clear polyurethane finish, covering the chair with even back and forth movements. Give it 24 hours to dry.
