Designer Bedroom Ideas for Small Rooms for Teen Girls

When your little girl becomes a teenager and it is time to redecorate her bedroom, her tastes will have changed and she will want a more funky and grown-up style of decor. Although there are plenty of design ideas for her new bedroom decor, if you are working with a small room, this does create certain limitations. However, there are lots of clever tricks to make a small room feel larger and create a really special space.
  1. Shabby Chic

    • Shabby chic is a light, pretty decor style. Use a light cream color on the walls, as the lighter the color, the larger the room will appear. Paint furniture and woodwork white for a clean, fresh look. Dress the bed with a patchwork comforter and pretty floral fabrics in soft, pastel shades with lace accents. Hunt in thrift stores, antique shops and flea markets for vintage accessories such as bedside lamps, photo frames and perfume bottles to sit on the dressing table. A vintage-style mirror is a great accessory that helps make a room appear larger.

    "Love" Theme

    • A love theme can be used with any color palette, but in a small room it is best kept light and bright. Use a soft pink on the walls and add vinyl quotes, such as "Live well, laugh often, love much," and fabric letters that spell the word "Love." Hang a piece of artwork that represents love, whether it's cute and colorful or a more sophisticated black and white print. Add a heart shaped cushion to the bed, but avoid too much heart shaped decor, as it can look a little tacky.

    City Inspired

    • If soft and pretty is not your teen daughter's style, a modern and sophisticated city inspired bedroom is a different option. Keep the walls light and neutral to create a feeling of space and add a cityscape mural to really set the theme of the room. Choose modern furniture with clean lines and dress the bed with a funky and modern patterned fabric. Add a simple wall mounted magazine rack for your daughter to store magazines to keep up with the latest city fashion. A large mirror is the ideal accessory in a city themed room and helps to make the room feel larger.

    Nature Inspired

    • An earthy, nature inspired room creates a relaxing and peaceful space for your daughter to spend time in. Keep the walls neutral and add light wood furniture such as pine. Accessorize with a range of greens and browns for a soft, fresh feel. Dress the bed with green and brown, with a nature inspired pattern such as flowers, vines or leaves. Hang artwork showing scenes from nature, such as a forest, sunset or waterfall. Fresh flowers displayed in vases and a potted plant complete the look.
