DIY Bathroom Backsplash

Backsplashes are often seen in kitchens behind the sink. They are used to protect the walls from splattering water and steam but they also add color and design to a room's decor. Both of these features are useful in a bathroom as well. One of the easiest ways to make a backsplash in a bathroom is to use peel and stick vinyl tiles. These tiles come in many sizes and colors and are nearly limitless in the looks you can create. Some tiles come in sheets of small tiles while others are individual tiles. Individual tiles allow you to make patterns in the backsplash as you would with ceramic tiles.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area that you are going to cover with the backsplash. Use a ruler and sketch out this area on a large sheet of craft paper.

    • 2

Fill the sketched out area with the sheets of tile to see how they will fit and arrange them so they fit neatly, with as few necessary cuts as possible. Do not cut the tiles yet.

    • 3

Remove the plates from any light switches or electric sockets. Wash the walls, rinse and dry them thoroughly. The tiles stick the best to a clean, dry surface.

    • 4

Peel the adhesive back off of the tile and stick it to the wall. Start working in the biggest open section. Use a level to make sure the tiles are straight. Fill in all of the empty spots. Cut the tiles with a box cutter when necessary to cover all the areas.

    • 5

Press the tiles firmly against the wall. Use a book or rolling pin to help you press them in place.
