How to Decorate a Small Sitting Room Off the Bedroom

Paint the room in the same color as the bedroom. The color can be in a different hue, such as a dark purple bedroom and a mauve sitting room, but it should be in the same color range. Contrasting colors will make the room look smaller and more separate.

Add small furniture that is multifunctional. For example, choose a bench seat with storage underneath. Instead of having large tables, choose a small card table or patio size furniture. Opt for one piece of big furniture to complement the smaller furniture. Try an armchair or large bookcase that fills one wall.

Hang curtains that match the wall color. Painted shutters also work well. This helps the room flow and look longer. Contrasting curtains will make each section of wall look separate and small.

Choose doors that don't take up extra room for both the closets and doorway. Bifold doors work well. Curtains are a good replacement to doors. Choose curtains that either match the walls or are in the same hue so they don't break up the flow of the room too much.
