How to Close the Hole in the Cabinet

Holes can occur in cabinets for a multitude of reasons. You might have a hole from moving the position of the handle or knob on a cabinet door. Alternatively, you might have a hole in a cabinet if an accident has occurred and a sharp object has punctured the surface. Regardless, even if your hole is small, there's no reason why you should have such a flaw staring you in the face each day, especially since you don't need to be a master carpenter to fix it.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrape off any splinters that line the hole with a razor blade. Leave the inside of the hole rough so the putty has plenty of friction to stick to.

    • 2

Pick up a silver dollar-sized amount of wood putty with a plastic knife. Pat it down into the hole, pushing the putty down into the hole as far as you can. Wipe off any excess putty with a damp sponge. Allow it to cure overnight. Repeat this entire process twice more.

    • 3

Run a 220-grit sanding block over the hole. Wipe off the dust with a tack cloth.

    • 4

Dip a 1/4-inch nylon brush into the paint or finish of your choice. Dab it over the hole. Allow it 12 hours to dry, and then repeat.
