How to Decorate Inside Drawers

While the bottom of your drawers are often covered with clothing or small objects, the odd bit of the bottom does peek through. Liven up your furniture and create a personal touch that enhances the decor of the room by decorating the bottom of your furniture drawers. Eliminate the look of plain and unfinished wood, and create a polished appearance that matches the rest of your home decor.

Instructions

Measure the dimensions of the bottom of the drawer, and cut a piece of cardboard that is the same size and a piece of brightly colored fabric that is 1 inch larger on all sides. Fold the edges of the fabric securely around the cardboard, and secure the fabric with stitches. Drop the fabric-covered rectangle into the drawer, pressing it down to lie flat. Use a fabric that matches your home decor or a fabric that provides a splash of color to an otherwise plain area.

Paint the interior of the drawer a bright color, using acrylic paint and a paintbrush. This is a simple and straightforward project that requires little time and no measuring or cutting. Paint each drawer in the piece of furniture a different color, or use the same color for an elegant and coordinated look. Use paint that has a strong contrast with the outer part of the furniture for an eye-catching appearance.

Cut a piece of wallpaper to the measurements of the interior of the drawer, and apply it to the bottom of the drawer. You can cover the sides of the drawer in the same way. This is an excellent way to use a scrap of wallpaper leftover from a home decorating project. If you place the piece of furniture in the room that has that type of wallpaper, wallpapering the interior of a drawer provides a charming complement.

Paint the interior of the drawer with acrylic paint and a paintbrush, and then stamp it with your hand or with your child’s hand. To do this, paint the surface of your hand lightly with acrylic paint and then blot it by pressing it to a paper towel. Then press the painted hand to the interior of the drawer. This is ideal for a child’s room.
