Instructions

    • 1

Unscrew the door from its hinges and set it aside, out of your work area. Spray the door frame with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe it down.

    • 2

Run 2-inch-wide painter's tape around the wall where it hits the door frame. Cover the door frame with oil-based primer using a 3-inch-wide brush. Allow it four hours to dry.

    • 3

Dip your paintbrush into the oil-based color of your choice. The color should nicely contrast the shade of your door. Cover the frame in a light coat of this color. Allow it 24 hours to dry and then apply a second coat, giving it the same drying time.

Run a studfinder above the door frame and mark the stud. Drill a screw and attached hook into the the most centered wall stud. Hang a ceramic or faux stone wall frieze or sconce above the frame of the door. Once it's hung, bend the hook with your fingers or pliers so that the adornment won't slide off if someone slams the door.
