How to Glue Wood Strips to Glass Doors to Create a Panel Effect

The expression, "One man's trash is another man's treasure" is accurate in life, and certainly true when it comes to home decorating and design. For example, just as one homeowner will treasure her sliding glass doors and the sunlight and brightness that they create, another homeowner will abhor the excess of natural light and the lack of privacy. Attaching wood strips to sliding doors is a bold solution; it creates a panel effect, making your interiors not unlike a rustic log cabin.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the glass doors from their sliding track or from their hinges using a screwdriver. Cover your work surface with a drop cloth or old sheet. Lay the glass doors carefully on top with the side you'll be applying the wood to face up.

    • 2

Spray the glass with an all-purpose glass cleaner. Wipe it down with paper towels and allow it to air dry for 15 minutes.

    • 3

Load the tube of silicone glue into a caulking gun. Apply a zigzag of clear silicone glue to the underside of each panel from top to bottom.

    • 4

Press each panel onto the glass, working from the far left end to the right. Immediately wipe up any excess glue that oozes out with a damp sponge.

    • 5

Attach a C-clamp to the top, middle and bottom of each panel and the glass. This will ensure a strong bond. Allow the clamps to stay on for 24 hours.
