How to Make a Temporary Backsplash

A backsplash behind the stove or sink protects the wall from water damage and food splatters. It should be stain-resistant and easy to clean, and, ideally, it also adds a decorative element to the room. If you are unsure about what you want as a backsplash or you are only going to be in the place you are residing in for a few months, make a temporary backsplash that you can easily cover or remove later.

Instructions

Paint the area behind your stove and sink with chalkboard paint. This allows you to use the backsplash area as a chalkboard, and you can decorate it with chalk or write down lists of food that you need to buy. Afterward, you can repaint the temporary backsplash.

Mount a pegboard behind the stove and sink with screws. This gives you a place to hang up your pots and your kitchen tools, and you can take down the peg board and clean it when it becomes dirty.

Cover the tiles behind the sink and stove with self-stick vinyl tile decals. These decals are easy to remove and they create a look that is significantly more elegant than plain tile. Vinyl decals are also easy to clean with a damp sponge, making them ideal for a kitchen where a lot of cooking goes on.

Have a mirror cut to the measurements of your backsplash area and mount it to the backsplash area with saw-toothed picture brackets and screws. When you want to take it down, you can simply remove the mirror. For the best results, have the specially-cut mirror hung professionally.
