How to Fix Cracks in Textured Walls

Textured walls are a way to adorn your walls in an offbeat way, making them a refreshing alternative to paint and wallpaper. Textured walls give a room instant atmosphere, and can make a given room feel like a clay cottage or a medieval castle, all depending on the type of texture you select. However, flaws like cracks in a textured wall can instantly detract from the pleasing effect of your carefully constructed wall texture, and make the entire wall look like an eyesore. Luckily, you truly can fix it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Jab the area of wall on the right and left sides of each crack with a rigid putty knife. Your goal is to get down to the drywall surface.

    • 2

Continue in this manner until you create a small valley 3 inches wide on either side of the crack.

    • 3

Load your tube of caulking into the caulking gun and cover this entire area with a layer of caulk. Pat the caulk down with the putty knife. Allow it to dry overnight.

    • 4

Dip a 2-inch wide paintbrush into latex primer and apply a light coat of primer to the area. Allow it to dry for five hours.

    • 5

Spray the area with the spray-on texture that best matches the texture of your walls with a light mist. These cans of spray on texture are designed exactly for small repair jobs like this. Give it 12 full hours to dry.
