How to Build a Cinder Block Coffee Table

Cinder block tables are staples of college dorms or first apartments. Most people associate them with the humble furnishings of a young person just starting out. However, cutting edge designers are using such basic tables to give interiors an edgy, slightly industrial feel. Cinder block tables lack the pretension and intricacy of other styles of furniture, yet offer you durability and the freedom to take them apart at will.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Lay six cinder blocks horizontally in front of you with the two square hollows pointing straight up. Position them into a rectangle that is two blocks wide and one block long in the area where you want the coffee table to be.

    • 2

Lay a cinder block on top of each cinder block. You now have a hollow rectangular base for your table. You can store things in this rectangular base, out of sight, once the top is added.

    • 3

Spray an old vintage door or two antique wood shutters with all purpose cleaner. Wipe them down with a soft cloth.

    • 4

Place the door or vintage shutters across the rectangle of cinder blocks. Your coffee table is complete.
