How to Decorate With Repurposing Doors

One man's trash may be another man's treasure, and that is especially true when it comes to repurposing items into new uses from what they originally were designed for. Old doors might seem destined for the landfill, but if you have a door left from a remodeling project, sitting idle in the garage or purchased inexpensively from a secondhand shop, you have the basis for a variety of decorating projects around your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your door on its side at the head of your bed to act as a headboard perfectly at home in a shabby chic, country or eco-feel bedroom.

    • 2

Attach legs to your door, or mount it on painted wooden sawhorses, cover the top with a sheet of glass, and you have a dining table that will seat eight.

    • 3

Fit the top of the door with an interesting piece of crown molding, screw a small wooden shelf across the middle, attach a mirror in the middle, paint the entire thing white, and now the door is a hall tree for your front entry.

    • 4

Start with a paneled door, paint it a bright color, and fit it with mirrors cut to fit into each panel frame. Hang on the wall over your couch for a unique piece that will bring compliments from all your visitors.

    • 5

Mount an old door on the wall of your entry or mudroom, and screw in hooks along the bottom edge to hold umbrellas, jackets and scarves. Attach dry erase boards or chalkboards to stretch across the middle of the door, and you have a message center for keeping track of family appointments and doings.
