Decorating Ideas for a Master Bedroom With a Leather Headboard

Leather adds sophistication and decadence to a room. However, it can also make a room appear too dark if not tied together with the right colors and decorations. Make your leather headboard a focal point of the room by warming the rest of the room with reds, oranges and yellows. Soften these colors with warm greens and accompany the headboard with dark furniture and you have a well-decorated room.
  1. Warm Colored Walls

    • When the furniture displays cold, dark colors such as leather, the rest of the room should project warmth to counteract the effect. Otherwise, the room may appear too masculine and cold. Complement the leather with warm colored walls, such as oranges and yellows. If bright yellows and oranges sound overwhelming, consider using a faux plaster-style of painting that uses a darker orange and highlights it slightly with an orange-yellow. Browns with yellow and orange tones are also great.

    Black Bookcases

    • Nothing says sophistication like a bookshelf. Plus, bookshelves offer extra storage space and room for knickknacks. Use black bookcases in a room with a leather headboard to keep the furniture color scheme consistent. For an even sharper look, consider using a shelf unit that fits around the headboard.

    Dark Wood Furniture

    • If you are shopping for furniture for the rest of room, look for espresso colored pieces. The dark wood complements the leather headboard and will add yet another point of sophistication to the room. Use gold or brass colored hinges and handles on the furniture instead of silver or steel. This will reinforce the warm colors of the room.

    Plants

    • Every room of a home benefits from the addition of plants, but a bedroom with dark furniture especially does. Look for plants with light green leaves and showy, warm flowers. Palms, tulips and citrus trees would all complement the headboard perfectly and bring some nature inside the room.
