How to Make a Single-Wide Mobile Home More Spacious

Single-wide mobile homes are not known for their spacious interiors. If you live in one, you might be feeling just a bit hemmed in. Fortunately, there are several things you can do to create the illusion of space in your mobile home. With some thought and creativity, you can make your single-wide feel much roomier than it is.

Instructions

    • 1

Consider remodeling your mobile home to remove a wall or other divider that separates your living room from your kitchen. Pull up the floor covering in your living, dining and kitchen and lay the same laminate or tile throughout the entire space for a cleaner and more spacious look.

Paint the walls a light, clean color to give the illusion of more space. Dark colors make rooms look cramped, while light colors reflect more light. Use the same light color in your living and dining areas, as well as the kitchen, for a cohesive, thought-out look.

Purchase furniture that's in scale with your living area. For example, a love seat might work better than a sofa. Choose one or two scaled-down arm chairs over a recliner. Instead of having a coffee table, use small side tables. Furnish the dining area with a glass-top table, instead of a heavy wood table.

Decorate conservatively. The more stuff you have in a room, the smaller it is going to seem. Clutter and knickknacks make a room seem smaller than it really is. Do add a mirror to one of the walls to visually expand the space.

Store items out of sight in cabinets and closets. If you have a lot of items that you do not use regularly but do not want to get rid of, consider purchasing a storage shed for use outside your home.
