Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with rubbing alcohol, and swab down the entire surface area of the cake stand. This will cleanse it in preparation for painting. Allow the cake stand to air dry.
Visit a craft store, and select stencils small enough to complement your glass cake stand. You can pick any shape or pattern you like, though swirling or circular patterns will reflect the shape of the cake stand.
Arrange your chosen stencils on the cake stand until you determine which combination of them you like best. Attach your stencils to the cake stand with painter's tape.
Squirt out a generous amount of acrylic enamel paint for glass onto a paper plate. Dip a sponge applicator into the paint, and press it onto the stencils. Continue in this manner until you've filled in all the stencils.
Remove the tape and stencils ever so gently. Allow the paint to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions. For example, some glass paint requires that you bake it in the oven for a few minutes; others require that you air dry them for a few days or so.
