How to Make a Storage Hammock

While a hammock is typically thought of as a relaxing swing where you can nap away the summer, it can also be used to hang up small light objects. Make your storage hammock out of a large rectangle of fabric so that nothing falls through, and hang it from the corner of a room. A storage hammock is an excellent choice for a child’s room, where it can be used to house stuffed animals and other soft toys.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a rectangle of fabric that is 2 feet wide and 3 feet long using a pair of scissors.

    • 2

Finish the long edges by folding them down twice, creating a fold that is ¼-inch deep both times and sewing the folds down.

    • 3

Fold the short edges down once, creating a fold that is ¼-inch deep.

    • 4

Fold the short edges down again, creating a fold that is 2 inches deep and sew it flat, creating tubes or channels that run along the short edges.

    • 5

Cut two lengths of ribbon that are each about 1 foot long.

    • 6

Thread one ribbon through each channel by attaching a safety pin to one end of the ribbon and pushing it through the channel. As you push the safety pin through the channel, hold the other end firmly in your hand. This causes the fabric to bunch up, with one end of the ribbon protruding from each end of the channel.

    • 7

Remove the safety pin and knot each ribbon to itself by knotting the two ends together. This creates a fabric rectangle scrunched up on two rings of ribbon.

    • 8

Place two adhesive hooks 30 inches from a corner, both set at the same height.

    • 9

Hang the hammock by hanging one ring of each ribbon from the hook.
