Instructions

    • 1

Paint the walls a shade of pink or purple. Choose colors according to your taste, and your child's as well. Remove all or as many furnishings from the room as possible, and cover the remaining items and floor with a tarp or drop cloth. Also, cover the door with an old sheet or tarp. Use painter's tape or masking tape to cover the window borders and floor boards to protect them from the paint. Then, dump some paint in a paint tray and use paint rollers to paint all the walls in the room. Use paint brushes to paint the corners and other wall details. Let it dry, and add a second coat if the color looks uneven.

Arrange the furniture items once the paint has dried. Start with the biggest furnishings first: bed, dresser, desk and bookshelf. Then, move on to the smaller pieces, such as a night stand and bedside tables. Continue the purple and pink theme by using purple or pink cushions on the furniture pieces. Or, use purple or pink cloth, fabric or throw blankets to keep the color scheme consistent on the furniture.

Purchase purple and pink glow-in-the-dark stars to stick onto the ceiling. Look for fun pink- and purple-themed light fixtures and lamps.

Decide on the window dressings. Most commonly, these include blinds and curtains; however, there are various types of blinds, curtains and curtain poles to choose from. Window dressings come in many shapes, sizes, prices and vary in efficiency as well. Purple or pink curtains and window valances are one way to incorporate the room's color theme. Ensure all blind cords and long drapes are safe and age-appropriate for the little girl -- she should not be able to pull on the cords or wrap them around her body.

Decorations bring the color scheme together and open doors to other small splashes of color around the room. Decorations may include accent pillows, stuffed animals, rugs, mirrors and posters. Ask your daughter to draw or paint art pieces using purple and pink to hang on the walls. Also, look for purple and pink picture frames, insert some of her favorite pictures and pictures of your family and hang those on the wall.

Add the finishing touches to the room with the right bedding. Pink and purple bedding designed for little girls should not be difficult to find. The hard part is deciding which one to pick. Keep your budget and vision in mind. If there is an additional theme to the room besides purple and theme, such as flowers, butterflies or princesses, the bedding can incorporate those concepts and merge the two themes together.
