How to Decorate or Finish a Plywood Accent Wall

An accent wall refers to a single wall in a room that has a different color or pattern than the surrounding walls. It is possible to have a plywood accent wall if your house has a more industrial or rustic vibe. Plywood, while cheap and sturdy, can be a bit of an eyesore, so how you decorate the plywood determines how successful this accent wall is. Giving it a faux grain pattern to resemble oak or pine allows you to highlight and celebrate the fact that you have a plywood wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a light cream or light yellow shade into a paint roller pan. Tape off any areas of the wall or surrounding fixtures you don't want to get paint on with painter's tape.

    • 2

Dip your paint roller into the paint and cover the wall with this base color. This will be the foundational color of your faux wood grain design. Allow it to dry overnight.

    • 3

Place a sheet of stencils in faux wood design over the wall, covering it completely. Tape them in place with painter's tape.

    • 4

Hold a can of honey, bronze or deep brown oil-based spray paint 8 inches from the plywood wall. Move the can back and forth, spraying the stencils in place. Use another can if necessary. Allow the paint to dry and add a second coat.

    • 5

Remove the stencils and allow the wall to dry overnight.
