Turntable Stereo Cabinet Ideas

When determining what kind of cabinet you want for your stereo turntable, you can either go retro or you can use more contemporary ideas. As long as your turntable is level and stable inside your cabinet, then the kind of cabinet you use will not affect the sound. That means that you can open up your imagination and create a custom cabinet for your stereo turntable that will suit your personal decor.
  1. Television Consoles

    • A popular retro-looking cabinet is an old console television that was popular from the 1950's into the early 1980's. Some console television cabinets even had doors on the front to make the television look like a piece of furniture until it was time to watch it. To use one of the old television consoles as a cabinet for your stereo turntable, remove the television picture tube and television electronics from the inside of the cabinet and build a shelving area inside the old console where you can place your turntable. If the cabinet does not have doors on the front, then consider installing doors that match the color of the console to get that look of furniture. It also may be easier to access your turntable if you made the top of the console open by popping the top off of the console and putting hinges on the back.

    Shelving Units

    • A more contemporary stereo turntable cabinet can be made from a shelving unit with drawers in it. A basic entertainment center can be your turntable cabinet if you put the turntable where the television normally would be located. Then, place the other stereo components on the shelves surrounding the turntable.

    Armoire

    • Armoires with large pull-out drawers can be the ideal place to conceal your stereo turntable. Place the turntable in the largest armoire pull-out drawer and the rest of the stereo throughout the inside of the armoire. When you close the armoire door, it looks like any other piece of furniture. To supply the proper air flow in an enclosed armoire, open up small holes in the back of the armoire at points that can be obscured by equipment and other items being stored along with the turntable.

    Roll-Top Desk

    • Roll-top desks have a rustic and even colonial look to them that would make them an unlikely stereo turntable cabinet. As long as the rolled top covers the stereo turntable safely, then this can be a pleasing way to present your turntable. Put your record collection on the top of the desk and put any of your turntable accessories in the desk compartments.
