How to Hang a Fabric Panel for a Room Divider

Fabric panels are an ideal way to add a splash of color or interest to a room while dividing the area and offering privacy. Often, large rooms are difficult to decorate as they serve more than one purpose. By dividing the room with hanging panels, you create sections of the room that are much more individualized and therefore easier to decorate. The benefit of fabric panels is you can slide them open to create the large room or keep them closed for a cozier feel.

Instructions

    • 1

Mark the first point in the area that you want to divide. Turn on the stud finder and place it against the wall. Move it slowly across the wall to find a stud. Make a small mark with the pencil at the location of the stud. Find the other end of the area that you want to divide using the same method.

    • 2

Turn on the laser level and climb the ladder to a height just taller than your fabric panel. Project a line at this height and make a small mark with the pencil directly in line with the mark you made when you found the stud. Have an assistant make a dot on the laser line that is above the other mark so you know where to install the hardware.

    • 3

Drill a pilot hole at each of the dots you just made.

    • 4

Insert the tip of the eye bolt into the pilot hole and turn it clockwise. Once you can no longer tighten it with your hand, insert the tip of the screwdriver into the hole of the eye bolt and use the screwdriver like a handle to tighten the bolt. Repeat this process with the other eye bolt.

    • 5

Thread a wire clip and a turnbuckle on to the end of the wire, bring the end back through the wire clip and tighten it with pliers. Hook other end of the turnbuckle to the eye bolt.

    • 6

Slide the café curtain rings onto the wire and stretch it across the area to the other eye bolt.

    • 7

Cut the wire 2 inches longer than the distance to the eye bolt with wire cutters.

    • 8

Thread on a wire clip and another turnbuckle. Take the end of the wire and insert it back into the wire clip. Tighten it with pliers.

    • 9

Attach the fabric panel to the café curtain rings by pinching the clip open and inserting the fabric.

    • 10

Tighten the turnbuckles to remove any droop in the wire.
