Drape a long decorative scarf or rectangular piece of fabric over a curtain rod so it hangs slightly in the front. The rest of the fabric should fall behind the rod on either side to give the illusion of a valance as part of the window treatment.
Throw a colorful scarf over a lamp to create soft lighting and add color to the room. Use a lamp with a wide lampshade so the scarf isn't too close to the bulb and utilize an LED light bulb because they don't get as hot as traditional bulbs.
Lay a throw or decorative blanket across an armchair in a living room or bedroom so it covers no more than half the chair. This gives the chair a comfortable, cozy look and provides extra warmth for anyone curled up in it on a cool day.
Set an extra blanket across the foot of the bed so it drapes at an angle off one side or lays flat across the foot. This adds some color to the decor, provides warmth to the feet while you are sleeping and is an optional, additional blanket if needed.
Lay a sarong or large scarf along the top of a dresser or table to give an old table a fresh look. This can also protect the table from scratching if it has an unprotected wood surface. Line the ends of the sarong up so the ends hang evenly on either side of the furniture.
Hang up drapes or large pieces of fabric on the wall to hide an ugly or boring wall space. Use a curtain rod to hang the drapes in a permanent location or hang with finishing nails in a temporary location.
