How to Arrange a Curved Sectional Sofa

Sectional sofas are convenient because they allow you to adjust the sofa in response to the space available in the room. A regular couch takes up a certain amount of space and can't be adjusted if it doesn't fit. Sectionals allow you to separate the couch as needed or remove a piece when a room is too cramped. Curved sections will fit in rooms many straight couches cannot because of their semicircle shape. Arranging a curved sectional sofa requires some planning ahead.

    • 1

Set up your television and entertainment center first or decide on the location. Most people prefer their sofa to be angled appropriately towards the television so they can watch it comfortably. Deciding the TV location first helps you establish where the sofa will do you the most good.

    • 2

Measure the length and width of the individual pieces of the sectional with a tape measure. This lets you know how much space you need and you can then mix and match sectional pieces on paper as needed without having to physically move them to see if they'll fit appropriately. Measure the room as well so you know your limitations.

    • 3

Place the sofa so it faces the television. The opposite wall is often a good place for a couch, depending on the dimensions of the room and what your other decorating needs are. Position the couch so the center of it is directly opposite from the TV, if possible.

    • 4

Match the curve of the sectional with the junction of two walls if you are short on space. This wraps the sectional around the wall so it sits more in the corner than in the center of the room.

    • 5

Break up the sectional into smaller pieces if you are using a small room. Divide the sofa into smaller chairs and consider placing small tables next to them.

    • 6

Add other items around the couch such as coffee tables or wall decorations once you've decided on the couch's final position. The sofa is usually the largest item in a room so it draws focus. Therefore, most items in the room are positioned in relation to the couch.
