How to Make Your Dorm Room Have Good Vibes

The principles of feng shui say you can have a better, happier life if you arrange your surroundings so that good luck and prosperity flow into your living space and stay there. The Chinese word “feng” means wind, and “shui” means water. Both wind and water are needed in balance to produce good “chi” energy. You can keep the good vibes coming and become at harmony with the surroundings of your dorm room by following the rules of feng shui.

Instructions

    • 1

Get rid of clutter. Feng shui is about accessing your inner energy to make you more powerful, enabling you to get what you want out of life. Clutter clogs your energy as badly as a gunky hairball stuck in your shower drain. Keep only the things you use and love. When in doubt, throw it out.

Clean up your room and clear up your life. A dorm room that is dirty, dusty and disorganized is a reflection of how you think of yourself. Cleanse your room and your head of clutter and make way for power, energy and good chi.

Place your bed as far away from the door as possible. Never put the foot of the bed in line with the door; this is known as "the death position," as it can remove you from the power position and block your energy. If you must have the foot of the bed facing the door, put something in between to block it.

Put your headboard along a sturdy wall to keep your thoughts grounded, according to feng shui rules. More directives of feng shui warn not to put your bed under or directly next to a window to avoid losing good chi and not to hang large, heavy pictures directly above the head of your bed.

Add light to increase your productivity and creativity. While natural light is best, if you don’t have a southern exposure, or even a window in your dorm, add lamps and bright colored posters to light up your life.

Add color. Warm colors, reds, yellows and oranges, add intensity and excitement. Cool colors, blues and greens, create a relaxing vibe. Stick with the warm colors for your desk area and the cool ones for your bed if you want a good night’s sleep.
