How to Make a Record Door Curtain

Although vinyl records are no longer a mainstream form of media, you can repurpose them to create a unique decor feature. While beaded strings are often used for door curtains, a curtain made from vinyl records would add an unusual touch to a design scheme. Vinyl records are quite fragile, so before starting your project, measure the door with a record to see how many you want. Then, make sure to keep about twice that amount for replacing broken records.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width and height of the door. The number of records you need depends on the size of record you plan on using, which can be 7, 10 or 12 inches, and whether you would like them to overlap.

    • 2

Cut four lengths of ribbon as long as the height of the door.

    • 3

Cut the 1-by-1 inch board to the width of the door with a saw.

    • 4

Divide the measurement of the 1-by1 inch board by five. Make a mark at each measurement--these are where you will place the ribbons.

    • 5

Place the end of one piece of ribbon over one of the “X” measurements. Nail the ribbon in place with a hammer. Repeat for each ribbon.

    • 6

Turn the 1-by-1 inch board over so that you're facing the side opposite the ribbons.

    • 7

Measure 1 inch from each end of the 1-by-1 and draw a dot. Drill through the 1-by-1 inch board at each end at the dots.

    • 8

Install the 1-by-1 inch board onto the door frame by screwing two wood screws through the 1-by-1 into the door frame, one at each end where you drilled the holes.

    • 9

Pick up a record and hold it towards the top of a piece of ribbon, but inside the door frame. Pick up a brad and insert it through the hole in the center of the record. Open the brad while it is still through the record and wrap each tail piece around the ribbon twice. Repeat, spacing the records in even intervals. Repeat this process for each hanging ribbon.
