How to Decorate Loft Stair Space

Loft stairs are often basic and plain. You can add flare to your loft stairs by placing decor on and near the staircase. Often loft spaces are decked in contemporary decor, and simplicity becomes the order of the day. That factor can make many homeowners nervous about adding too much decor to the loft, especially when trying to add interest to the staircase. With the proper selections, you can keep the look uncluttered and interesting.

Instructions

Paint the wall beside the staircase a color different from the rest of the room. Using a different color turns the staircase wall into an accent feature that highlights the stair space. Bright colors such as yellow and light blue open a stair space; more intense colors such as red add richness.

Hang pictures and artwork on the accent wall. Position the pictures so they go up the wall with the stair steps. This arrangement makes the stairs part of the decor. Hang pictures and artwork of different sizes to add interest to the wall.

Place one candle in a glass candle holder on each stair step if the steps are wide enough. Position each candle on the side of the steps that face the room. Lighting the candles at night will help you see and turn the staircase into a romantic element in your loft.

Set a potted plant at the base of the steps. Tall grass or a fern will work with the loft's contemporary decor. A plant vase that is a solid color or clear has simple lines for a contemporary look.
