Decide the party's theme and color scheme, and choose a vase or container for the flowers that incorporates the these features. For example, select a hurricane vase made of colored glass or fill a clear vase with colorful glass stones. This container will hold your bouquet centerpiece. Set it aside.
Gather all of your flowers and cut off any excess stems, leaves and foliage. Remove any thorns and damaged petals, too.
Fill a bucket or sink with cool water. Place the bouquet stems underwater in the container. Use a sharp knife or stem cutter to slice through each stem about 2 inches up from the bottom. Make the cut at an angle. Continue holding the cut stems underwater for about 10 seconds to allow the flowers to absorb the water. This will help keep them looking fresh for longer.
Hold one stem in your hand. Use your other hand to place another flower next to the first flower in your hand. Continue building the centerpiece bouquet by holding the bunch in your first hand. Place four flowers together, so the blossoms are on the same height, to make the center of the arrangement. Add more flowers, one by one, around these middle blossoms, moving each flower slightly lower than the one in front of it, to create a dome shape.
Bind the stems together by wrapping them in floral tape. Attach a strip of the tape where the stems naturally join, about 3 or 4 inches below the blossom heads.
Place the bouquet next to the selected vase. Note how high you want the flowers to sit in the vase, and mark where the stems must be cut to sit at this height inside the container. Use a sharp knife or stem cutters to trim the stems at the appropriate length. Ensure you make these cuts at an angle to promote water absorption.
Place the flower arrangement in the vase or container. Fill it with water and place it in the center of the table.
