Transform a worn table top with faux leather. Begin at the corners and make your way toward the center to create the leather look. Paint the base of the table in your choice of color. Black and white are classic options, but you can also use a shade of red or blue to add additional color to the room the table is intended for. For a table with drawers, consider applying the faux leather technique to the front side of each drawer to unify the look.
For an inexpensive makeover, try the faux leather technique on outdated kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Flat surfaces work best, but with some careful maneuvering you can also complete cabinet projects with molding details. For a kitchen with all white cabinets, remove the doors and decoupage them with faux leather. One idea is to faux leather all the bottom cabinets and paint the top ones a fresh coat of white. Add new hardware to the cabinets for a completely new look.
Instead of replacing outdated vinyl flooring, create a faux leather floor. Get a bucket of polyurethane to tackle the vinyl floor project. Tear larger strips of brown paper and begin layering it from one corner of the room out to the middle of the room. Use the polyurethane to stick each piece in place, taking care to smooth out bubbles that occur along the way. Whether you choose to revamp a kitchen, bathroom or mudroom floor, faux leather can be designed to suit each room. Coat the finished floor with several coats of polyurethane for a polished look.
If you don't want to commit to a large-scale project, many other options are available. Update home decor accessories with faux leather decoupage. For instance, mirrors, picture frames, accent chairs and side tables can all be refinished with faux leather. Other ideas include plant pots, decorative serving platters and old suitcases. Or, apply faux leather decoupage to a couple of blank canvases to create inexpensive art for a foyer or hallway. Experiment with the size and shape of the paper strips to create different looks for each project.
