How to Make Flat Folded Ribbon Roses

Folded ribbon roses are the perfect embellishment for everything from accessories such as headbands and jewelry to home decor such as pillows and hand towels. Once you have mastered the art of folding the rose, modify the technique by using different lengths and thicknesses of ribbon or even using torn strips of fabric. Then, embellish away.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a length of 1-inch ribbon that is about 3 feet long. Adjust the length of the ribbon to create a wider or narrower rose if you desire.

    • 2

Fold the ribbon in half lengthwise.

    • 3

Apply fabric glue to one end of the ribbon inside the fold.

    • 4

Roll the glued end three to four times to create the center of the rose.

    • 5

Continue rolling the ribbon, twisting and folding it away from the center as you roll and adding a dab of fabric glue every three to four rolls. Stop when you have a 2-inch tail of ribbon remaining.

    • 6

Cover the bottom of the rose with fabric glue. Press the ribbon tail over the bottom and into the glue. Smooth it with you fingers and trim any excess ribbon.
