How to Make a Floral Swag for a Front Door

Swags are essentially a smaller version of a garland or wreath—these decorations are very versatile and can be used to spruce up your mantle, walls in your home and even your front door. Use freshly cut flowers and twigs gathered from the woods to create a swag for your front door. When the flowers dry out, the swag will be transformed into a more antique looking decoration. Hang the swag on your front door to give your home a welcoming look.

Instructions

Measure the width of your door to see how long your twigs should be. A swag should be large enough to make a statement but not so large it takes over your door. Cut the twigs and branches to the appropriate size for your swag.

Cut eight pieces of floral wire and use it to create four bundles out of your twigs. Lay the twigs together and secure them together in the center with a piece of wire.

Cut your flowers and foliage and insert the stems into the gaps in your bundles. Continue adding flowers and leaves until the wooden bundles are barely visible beneath the flowers on top.

When the swag is filled in with flowers, tie a large bow around the center of the swag. Flip the swag over gently and attach a small loop of string to the back of the bow. This will give you something to hang the swag from.
