How to Make a Fruit Topiary Tree Centerpiece

Fruit topiaries are a fun and functional alternative to traditional floral centerpieces. Fruits provide endless color combinations to match your decor, they are much cheaper than most flowers, and your guests can munch on the fruit during the event. The look can be casual or elegant. Just find a container you love and head to your nearest craft store for some supplies and your supermarket's produce section or local market for your favorite fruits.

  • Blocks of florist foam
  • Florist foam cone

Instructions

    • 1

Pour 1 to 2 inches of sand in the bottom of your container. This will weigh the container down so it won't tip once you add heavy fruits.

    • 2

Stack blocks of floral foam on top of the sand in the center of your container until the foam is 1 inch below the rim of the container.

    • 3

Insert wooden skewers halfway into the base on the foam cone. Insert the other end of the skewers into the center of the foam blocks to attach the cone firmly.

    • 4

Gather and prepare fruits for your topiary. Use whole strawberries, cut pineapple chunks, whole apples, grapes or any other fruit you like.

    • 5

Use toothpicks to pin fruits to the foam cone. A random arrangement is fun for a casual get-together, or you can add the fruit in alternating layers or a spiral design for a more elegant presentation.

    • 6

Fill any gaps between fruits with small bunches of grapes.

    • 7

Place reindeer moss in the container to fill in the edges of the container. Allow some to hang over the side of the container to soften the look of the arrangement.
