How to Make Japanese Craft Flowers From Stretch Net Fabric

Beauty is a large part of Japanese culture. Beauty is valued, celebrated and cherished above many other things. This is apparent in the Japanese love of carved furniture, lush embroidered fabrics and manicured gardens. Japanese gardens are often a mixture of traditional Japanese plants and ponds of water. The ponds, meant to inspire peace and serenity, are filled with beautiful water lilies. To bring some serenity into your home, create Japanese water lilies out of pink mesh. Embellish the flowers with vinyl leaves for a lovely centerpiece.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut four circles out of the stretch mesh. One should be 4 inches in diameter, one 3 1/2 inches, one 3 inches and the last 2 1/2 inches in diameter.

    • 2

Draw a flower shape on each of the circles. Each flower shape should have five petals and should begin half an inch outside the center of the circle and end in a point at the edge of the circle. Each petal should be the same size and the five petals should be equally spaced. Each shape should look like a bird's eye view of a flower.

    • 3

Cut the flower shape out on your penciled line.

    • 4

Lay the largest shape on a table or other flat surface.

    • 5

Place a dime-sized dot of glue in the center of the shape.

    • 6

Place the second largest shape on top of the largest and line the petals up with the gaps between the petals beneath it. Press the shape down firmly onto the glue.

    • 7

Glue the other two shapes to the larger two, the smallest on top, staggering the petals as above.

    • 8

Use your fingers to press all the petals upward, giving dimension to the flower.

    • 9

Cut an elongated wide heart shape from the vinyl.

    • 10

Place the flower on top of the vinyl lily pad and glue it slightly off center.

    • 11

Place the arrangement on a table or other flat surface.
