How to Pair Centerpieces With Ornate Chandeliers

An ornate chandelier hanging above the dining table becomes the focal point of the room. It's the first thing noticed when guests enter. Two options give you some flexibility in designing a centerpiece to pair with the chandelier. Echo the intricacies of the chandelier with a stunning centerpiece or use simple floral arrangements that don't compete.

  1. Ornate Centerpiece

    • 1

Center your table under the chandelier. Measure the length of the table and subtract 3 feet. That gives you room for guests at either end, with the centerpiece taking up the remaining length. For example, the table is 8 feet long less 3 feet, which equals 5 feet. The centerpiece will take up 5 feet of the table.

    • 2

Construct three centerpieces. Two should be 1 1/2 feet long and 1 foot tall each. Those should roughly resemble right angle triangles. Use only greenery on the taller sides of those centerpieces. The remaining centerpiece should be 2 feet long and 18 inches high. Each end of that centerpiece should be 1 foot tall, with the middle standing 18 inches high. Don't use flowers on the ends of the centerpieces, where they'll be pushed together, because they'll be hidden.

    • 3

Place the largest centerpiece directly underneath the center of the chandelier. Place the smaller centerpieces on either side of the largest one. Push the smaller centerpieces against the sides of the larger centerpiece, so it looks as if it were one solid centerpiece.

Center your table under the chandelier. Place a fabric runner down the center of the table. Put five vases down the runner at equal distances apart. Keep the last two vases about 18 to 24 inches from the edges of the table. Scatter votive candles among the vases.

Put one perfect flower in each vase. Use larger flowers such as orchids, peonies or Casablanca lilies. If you use roses, use a bunch of five to seven in each vase. The flowers should just peek above the lip of the vase.

Place a bud vase at each place setting. Put a smaller flower in each bud vase. For example if you use roses down the center of the table, put a single rose in each bud vase.
