How to Hang Bottles With Flowers From the Ceiling

Antique glass or newly recycled bottles add character to a fresh flower display. Garden blossoms, wildflowers and florist offerings will fit into the necks of clear and colored glass or plastic bottles. You can hang flowers in a bottle from the ceiling for a decorative statement in your home. Sturdy floral wire formed in the shape of a plant hanger will securely hold the flower-filled bottles in place. Supply the flowers with enough water each day to keep them hydrated.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two 20 to 36-inch pieces of florist-grade wire using wire cutters. Use the longer pieces of wire for a bottle that is 8 inches high or taller.

    • 2

Place the two pieces of wire on a flat surface to form an "X" shape. Twist the wires together twice at the cross section to join them. Flatten the twisted wire slightly with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

    • 3

Set a bottle on the twisted wires at the center of the "X" shape.

    • 4

Lift two ends of the wire and cross them over one another halfway up the length of one side of the bottle. This will form another "X" on the middle of the bottle.

    • 5

Wrap one wire around the neck of the bottle in a clockwise movement. Wrap the second wire around the bottleneck in a counterclockwise movement. Twist the two wires together once to secure them.

    • 6

Lift and wrap the two remaining wire pieces to form an "X" on the opposite side of the bottle. Wrap the two wires around each side of the bottleneck and secure them.

    • 7

Hold the four ends of wire against your palm and bend the top ten inches over the back of your hand, forming a large hanging loop.

    • 8

Wrap the ends of the wire tightly around the four strands several times to close off the loop. Pinch the wrapped wire with the needle-nose pliers to add extra support to the secured portion of wire.

    • 9

Push the pointed end of a cup hook into the ceiling. Twist the hook by hand until it is secured into the ceiling.

    • 10

Pour room-temperature water into the bottle until it is no more than half full. Place one to three flower stems into the bottle. Hang the loop of the wire support on the cup hook.
