Even the most boring floral draperies can be refreshed with chic borders at the top and bottom. Find a dark solid color that matches both the draperies and the rest of the room. Cut a long strip at a width that you find looks good. Sew a strip of fabric onto the top of the curtain, and another one at the bottom. You may want to try a thicker border at the bottom, extending the curtains all the way to the floor.
A simple floral curtain can be spruced up by adding funky physical objects to it, such as beads or buttons. Make a bead trim for you draperies, either across the top or down the sides. String together a length of beads of various colors and sew them to the curtains, attaching them every few inches. Alternatively, sew buttons in a regular pattern across the top of your draperies. Space them out every few inches.
Sometimes it is not the draperies themselves, but the way they are hung that make them look boring. Take down the curtains and rehang them in a chic new way. Instead of a regular curtain rod, affix an industrial-looking metal wire across the top of the window. Attach the draperies to the wire with large metal bulldog clips or butterfly clips. The attachments will give the curtains a more rugged, rough look that improves the overall feeling in the room.
You can improve the look of floral draperies simply by altering the objects and decor that surround them. To make your floral draperies look less out-of-place, hang art on the walls that use similar colors to the curtains. Find a rug with a similar floral pattern, or with colors that offset the colors on the draperies. Get throw pillows for your sofas that look chic, and that bring out the best elements of the draperies.
