How to Make a Christmas Floral Table Centerpiece

A Christmas floral centerpiece is the perfect decoration to highlight your dinner or buffet table. A silk arrangement can sit throughout the season or a fresh arrangement will scent the dining area for several days. A floral centerpiece should be eight to ten inches high if diners will be sitting at the table. A higher arrangement will work well in the center of a buffet table. Evergreen boughs can be placed under the arrangement or look festive as they overlap the container and spread down on to the tablecloth. You can design floral centerpiece to match the Christmas decoration in your home or to match the colors of the table settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare floral container by filling it with a piece of foam. Push a single candle down into the center of the foam if desired. If the container is oblong you can use three candles, staggering the heights.

    • 2

Fill in the outer edges of the container and foam with evergreen twigs. You can mix pine with fir if it is available or use leather leaf and cedar from the florist. The greens can cover the container and flow down onto the work surface.

    • 3

Place filler flowers throughout the greens. Keep them low and away from the candle. Cut flower stems down to six inches or less. Place them into the foam.

    • 4

Continue adding flowers in a circular or oblong shape according to the area that the centerpiece will fit in on the dining table or buffet table.

    • 5

Add in natural cones, nuts, ornaments, a ribbon bow, faux candy canes or any Christmas decoration that appeals to you and matches the table decor.
