How to Make a Western Wreath

Western wreaths are anything but just green. Honeysuckle, cones, ferns, fruit, and purple lavender help create wreaths full of color, and these treasures add scents that fill the air for weeks. Most materials are found right in your own backyard. You can get most of the others in the grocery store. For an interesting supply of wreath materials, visit a local farm or garden.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather together long, thin branches of a supple plant material. Choose willow, honeysuckle, grapevine, or pine. Stagger the branches until you have a 60 foot rope that is 2 inches wide. Tie florist's wire around the bundle every 4 inches.

    • 2

Carefully bend the bundle into a ring. Use wire to tie the ends together. Use additional wire to hold together any loose ends.

    • 3

Attach green plants to the base with wire. Western greens include eucalyptus, jade plant, incense cedar, and sword fern. Lay your foliage on the wreath, going in one direction. Wrap the wire around the foliage and base to hold it down. Thoroughly cover the wreath.

    • 4

Tie moss covered branches to the back of the wreath using wire or raffia. Tie little raffia bows around several branches. Kumquats, lady apples and berries look exceptional on a Western wreath.

    • 5

Choose natural looking products to add to your Western wreath. Ornamental corn, yucca pods and safflower are colorful additions.

    • 6

Use wire or florist's picks to attach decorative foliage and fruit to your wreath. You can also weave products into the branches.

    • 7

Tie a large decorative bow to the bottom of your Western wreath. Choose a color and texture that goes well with your theme.
