Find a container for your floral arrangement. You can choose from a wide variety of styles, colors, and sizes. Ensure that the container can withstand the rain and has a drainage hole in the bottom.
• Cut desert foam to fit the container.
• The foam should be double layered so the flower's stems can be deeply inserted for stability of the artificial flower arrangement.
• The top of the foam is positioned 1" below the top of the container. Hot glue the pieces of foam together and to the bottom, and sides, or the container.
• Use moss (found at a craft store) or other artificial grass to cover the foam. Hot glue that in place so you can not see the foam.
Begin Designing Your Outdoor Floral Arrangement
• Take the first flower bush, spread Elmer's glue on the tip of the stem, and insert it into the middle of the container leaving the top flower as tall as the container is deep.
• Work with the flowers, leaves, and branches and position them to face outward.
• Cut the stems of the second bush, leaving the stems as long as possible.
• Glue the bottom of each stem and insert them around the center of floral arrangement, between the top of the container and the highest silk flower.
• Cut the individual stems of the last bush a little shorter and insert them around the arrangement right above the top of the container.
• The silk flower arrangement should create a half circle appearance.
Silk Flower Arrangements Filler Flowers
• Depending on the length of the stems of the filler flowers you can insert them as a bush or cut the bush in to stems and glue and insert them individually.
• The filler flowers should not be in front of the main flowers already creating the floral arrangement.
• Using a bush for the filler flowers, instead of individual stems, provides the additional leaves necessary to fill in the arrangement. They also tend to provide both flowers and additional small berries or assorted shapes to add character to your silk flower arrangement.
• You can bend the stems so the flowers are where you want them.
Extending The Stems For Appropriate Placement in The Spring Flower Arrangements
• If the stems are not long enough you can extend them. Cut a piece of heavy wire the appropriate length.
• Wrap the stem, above where the wire starts, with green floral tape.
• Place the top of the wire on to the stem of your flower and continue wrapping the stem, and wire, with the floral tape.
• Ensure that you are pulling the tape while wrapping so the tape sticks securely to the stem and wire.
• Put glue on the bottom tip of the wire and insert the stem into the foam.
Flower Arrangement Finishing Touches
• The last items to insert in to your silk flower arrangement are your floral accent stems.
• There are so many options to choose from including bamboo shoots, wooden swirls, floral sticks, etc. Keep these stems in odd numbers (3, 5, 7) depending on the size of the silk flower arrangement.
• Insert three glued stems around the top of the arrangement.
• Stagger the next stems in between the first three, through the center of the arrangement.
• Depending on the style of the accent stem you could insert some around the base of your flower arrangement having them swag down below the top of the container.
